Strategic Partner to the Port of New York and New Jersey
As a fully operational, integrated center for transshipment, storage, collection and distribution of goods, the Buffalo Niagara (NY) region offers existing intermodal infrastructure, direct access to four of the country’s seven major rail lines, and a network of trucking and freight forwarders. With rich logistics assets and a strong advanced manufacturing base, Buffalo Niagara’s technologically-advanced infrastructure and extensive capacity make the region well-equipped to handle capacity increases and anticipated industry changes, including potential freight growth as a result of the introduction of larger, “post-Panamax” ships now using East Coast ports.
In addition, “soft infrastructure” assets related to international trade facilitation set Buffalo Niagara apart from other competitiors – services that include customs brokerage expertise, 3PL warehousing services, CanAm and international legal and financial assistance, logistics and workforce development programs, and other education and training across industries.
In September 2014, ongoing collaboration between the Buffalo Niagara International Trade Gateway Organization (ITGO) and the Port of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) was more formally solidified through a memorandum-of-understanding (MOU), which designated the region of Buffalo Niagara as a “strategic international gateway” for the Port. This formalization and collaborative partnership between regions establishes Buffalo Niagara as a reliable inland alternative for cargo moving through PANYNJ to destinations all across North America.
Well-situated both geographically and politically as a Great Lakes international border locale, Buffalo Niagara lies within close proximity to Toronto, Southern Ontario, and the U.S. eastern seaboard. The region is considered part of the “Golden Horseshoe” – placing it fourth overall among North American population bases. The region is also home to the second-largest port-of-entry along the U.S. northern border.
